Cllr. Paul Rowen meets Charles Kennedy MP and Sir Cyril Smith MP at Rochdale Town Hall
Leader of the Liberal Democrats - Rt. Hon. Charles Kennedy MP came to Rochdale on Friday 4th March backing Council Leader and Prospective Parliamentary Candidate - Cllr. Paul Rowen for the forthcoming General Election. Charles addressed a group of pensioners at Rochdale Town Hall at 12.15pm and will be discussed issues such as the Lib Dem Policy on Personal Care for the Elderly, free off-peak transport for all pensioners and disabled people and much more. As recently reported in the Daily Express - this is one of Sir Cyril Smith's events - Sir Cyril has recently come out of retirement for the forthcoming General Election.
Charles then moved to the Central Mosque, the biggest Mosque in Rochdale at 1.30pm, where he met and addressed people after Friday prayers, he discussed the Government plans to detain people without charge, identity Cards and of course Iraq.
Cllr. Paul Rowen said, "We are delighted that Charles visited Rochdale - it shows that the Lib Dems nationally are really taking Rochdale seriously. Here in Greater Manchester it is one of the top target seats and the visit of the party leader shows this as we continue our momentum."
Charles Kennedy renewed his pledge to restore the plans for Metrolink to Rochdale and Oldham as well as backing Cllr. Paul Rowen's plans for a safer Rochdale. Charles Kennedy is one of a series of visitors to Rochdale by leading Liberal Democrat Politicians. These include Chief Whip - Andrew Stunell MP, Lib Dem Spokesperson for Work and Pensions - Paul Holmes MP, Saj Karim MEP and Party President Simon Hughes MP.
