Local Celebrity Jimmy Cricket had one of the more entertaining surprises of his life this week - after celebrities from the world of showbiz threw a huge party to celebrate his 60th Birthday. The party, held at Richmond Hall in Rochdale was packed with people who have been part of Jimmy's hugely successful career including a huge Lib Dem contingent!

The party went well into the night, with entertainer after entertainer wowing the crowd. "It was like being on This is your Life!"... said the ecstatic, well loved comedian from Cookstown, Northern Ireland - "... comedian after comedian entertained us... that's just the way I like it! There were many friends and of course family there. The only problem was that people assumed that it was my fortieth! I've has a wonderful life and the good thing is that is more!!! ... plenty more. My family have already informed me that the night was such a success that they are planning my surprise 61st for next year?!?

Jimmy now lives of course in Rochdale - where he is still known to stride in his famous wellies and his hat - celebrities at the party included Ricky Tomlinson and former Rochdale rugby star - Peter Rush. Peter is standing in top Rochdale Lib Dem Target Seat - North Heywood, where he expected to give run Labour a run right up to the wire in next year's elections.

Jimmy Cricket's son - Dale Mulgrew reported that all was well - he said, "We had a great night, it took a lot of organising but was well worth it. I've got alot of work ahead - I'm standing in the Balderstone Ward in the May elections for the Lib Dems and my dad has promised to repay me for organising his party by helping in the election"

It's no surprise that Jimmy Cricket's son is standing for the Lib Dems - his Godfather is one Sir Cyril Smith!
