Looking after the health interests of the people of Rochdale - Paul Rowen MP.

Paul Rowen - the MP for Rochdale has called for the Chair and Chief Executive of Rochdale's Health Authority to resign. Paul has welcomed the recommendations in the report by Professor Alberti but is calling for a fresh start for the authority.

The report by Professor Alberti published by the Greater Manchester Strategic Health Authority on the Pennine Acute Hospital Trust which includes Rochdale Infirmary was damning - criticising Health Bosses for their Management Style and lack of Leadership.

Paul Rowen MP said, "This is a damming report. Prior to its amalgamation in 2000 Rochdale Health Authority was rated a three star hospital trust. The last five years under the leadership of Chris Appleby and Steven Price have seen it degenerate into mediocrity. Staff feel undervalued, threatened by management and the Trust has drifted. This is what led to the vote of no confidence by hospital staff. I have no doubt in my mind that patient care has suffered. Whilst the 25 recommendations are to be welcomed the big surprise for me is that neither the Chair nor Chief Executive have been sacked. They have failed and let down staff and patients and they should go. Implementing these recommendations will be a tall order but to do so with a discredited leadership will be nigh impossible. They should both consider their position."

Paul will be meeting Consultants at Rochdale Infirmary next Monday - 7th November to discuss the 25 proposals and will also be meeting the Strategic Health Authority. Paul said, "The future direction of Health Services in Rochdale is important and I am determined to ensure that Rochdale gets the Health Service it needs and deserves."
