December 4, 2007 12:00 AM

Lib Dem leadership hopeful Nick Clegg alongside Council Leader Alan Taylor and Councillor Kieth Swift in NewheyLib Dem Leadership hopeful Nick Clegg MP will be visiting Newhey, this Thursday (6 December) to continue Chris Davies MEP's North West Discussions. Mr Clegg will be meeting Paul Rowen MP with local Councillors Irene Davidson, Denis Whittle and Keith Swift. He is the latest in a series of high profile Lib Dem visitors to the North West including Simon Hughes MP, Sir Menzies Campbell MP, Lembit Opik MP and Lord Tom McNally who attended an event in Newhey earlier in this year. Mr Clegg will also be visiting the home of Sir Cyril Smith MBE before going to Newhey.

Paul Rowen MP, who is supporting Nick Clegg said: "We are pleased that Nick will be able to attend. It just goes to show that Rochdale remains at the forefront of everything the national party do. This event is open to everyone who would like to come and question Nick on the future of the Liberal Democrats. He will also be happy to answer any questions that Rochdale Online readers have - so please email them to Rochdale Online or post them on the Rochdale Online message board and we'll get you an answer."

Chris Davies MEP, the former MP for Milnrow and Newhey said: "I am delighted to be able to invite you to a meeting with one of my closest friends, Nick Clegg MP, our Home Affairs Spokesman. The venue for our meeting is the basement room I used in 1987 as our campaign HQ when I first contested the old Littleborough and Saddleworth constituency. It is not very large so I think I can at least promise that the meeting will enable a close and intimate discussion!"
