Liberal Democrat leader, Nick Clegg MP, will be holding a meeting at Rochdale Town Hall on Thursday 17th December 2009. The visit is part of the hugely popular "Nick Meets" events that the Lib Dem leader has participated in across the country.
The meeting will provide ordinary members of the public with an opportunity to meet Nick and pose questions that matter to them. 2009 has been a turbulent year for Britain and with a General Election looming the voters would like an opportunity to question the people that matter directly.
Paul Rowen, Liberal Democrat MP for Rochdale, said, "I am delighted that Rochdale will be part of the very successful "Nick Meets" tour. Many people will have very specific questions that a party Manifesto cannot satisfy and by coming along to the public meeting they can put these questions to Nick themselves. Public meetings like this are a perfect example of democracy in action."
Nick Clegg MP added, "I am incredibly excited about visiting Rochdale again especially during the celebrations for the 175th Anniversary of formation of the Rochdale Reform Association. My last visit was around a year and a half ago in which I went around to see Sir Cyril and backed local residents in their 'Sling Out Ding' campaign. Public meetings allow the electorate to learn more about the Liberal Democrats and what we stand for. Equally important though, probably more so, is that these informal gatherings make me even more aware of exactly what people are thinking. It is only by speaking to the electorate directly that politicians can learn exactly what their constituents want from them and which issues concern them the most."
The event is will to start at 6.30pm with doors opening at 5.45.
