Former Rochdale Infirmary employee Councillor Jean Ashworth has called on her fellow Councillors to come along and show their support against the closure of vital services at Rochdale Infirmary.
Councillor Jean Ashworth, who is a member of the Friends of Our Hospital Group, chose to speak out at the recent full council meeting, urging people to attend the next public meeting on Thursday 4th November, 6.30pm, at Rochdale Town Hall.
Councillors also dipped into their own pockets and contributed more than £100 towards funds for the Friends of Our Hospital Appeal.
Councillor Jean Ashworth said: "Please come along and support our campaign, it's important for the whole borough. We are fighting for our hospital and we are trying our hardest. I have spoken to the Friends of Fairfield Hospital and we are both keen to work more closely together against these cuts. We can fight and we can win but we can only win by working together."
Leader of Rochdale Council Irene Davidson said: "I was talking to my consultant recently and he told me how he was being forced, not asked, but forced to move to Oldham. This is a disgrace. We don't want a little cottage hospital we want a fit for purpose hospital for our town."
The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Zulfiqar Ali, added: "We should give all of our support together, it is important to get the message across to everyone."
Councillor Ashworth concluded: "Bring your placards, your banners, let's join forces and get everybody out there."
