November 2, 2010 12:00 AM

Councillor Peter RushHeywood and Middleton Lib Dems have announced that Heywood North Councillor Peter Rush has been successfully reselected as the Lib Dem Chairman of the Constituency.

Councillor Peter Rush was unanimously voted in for another term at the recent Heywood & Middleton Lib Dem AGM after he was unopposed. Councillor Rush has lived in Heywood for the past 50 years and has been a Liberal Democrat Councillor in Heywood North for over 4 years. He was also successfully re-elected as a Councillor for Heywood North last May.

Councillor Peter Rush said: "I am pleased to have been re-elected as Chairman of the Heywood and Middleton Liberal Democrats. I am proud to be Chair of such a hardworking group and I would like to thank my fellow members for putting their confidence in me yet again.

"As a party we have come a long way in recent years gaining more members, gaining more votes and gaining more Councillors. With the economy as it is we face challenging times in Heywood and Middleton but there are also many positive things happening in our area which I am delighted to have been part of. We have recently seen the opening of the Heywood Sports Village, Queen's Park presented with a national award for excellence and the success of the Middleton Arena.

"We are a diverse team that works hard for local residents and will continue to do so. I look forward to leading the party in Heywood and Middleton over the next year."

Heywood & Middleton Parliamentary Candidate Wera Hobhouse said: "I would like to congratulate Peter on his re-appointment as Chair of our group. He's done a fantastic job over the last year and I know he will continue to work hard for our party. The Heywood and Middleton Liberal Democrats are a thriving, growing group who will carry on fighting for local people and demonstrating that the Liberal Democrats are the best party to lead our Borough."
