Rochdale's Police Authority representative Councillor Pat Colclough has welcomed the decision taken by the coalition government to fund Police Community Support Officers in Rochdale for at least another 12 months.
Ring fenced grants will continue for the provision of PCSO's for at least another year and if these are kept at existing levels this will enable the Greater Manchester Force to maintain its funded establishment of 828 posts.
The decision was confirmed at the recent public meeting by the Chair of Greater Manchester Police Authority, following confirmation from the Home Secretary.
Councillor Pat Colclough said: "This just proves that policing is a top priority for the coalition government. PCSO officers provide a valuable support for local people in Rochdale, reassuring residents and keeping our streets. The new neighbourhood policing model is being rolled out across Oldham and will be implemented across entire Force in 2011/12. She added: "With the savings having to be made across the police force in Greater Manchester it's vital that we keep frontline services. As Rochdale's representative I promise to carry on fighting for this."
