Rochdale Liberal Democrats are celebrating dramatic wins in Balderstone & Kirkholt, and Central Rochdale, though they had a scare with Mayor Peter Evans perilously close to losing his seat to the Conservatives in Littleborough Lakeside, as Labour failed to win a single seat in Rochdale. The result was the best for the Lib Dems since records began and Labour nearly slipped into 3rd place.

'Mayor-Elect', Councillor Robin Parker, will be investigated after trying to use his influence as a Councillor to get Jean Ashworth sacked from her job at Rochdale Infirmary. The complaint to the Standards Board related to a series of emails that Councillor Parker sent to health bosses demanding that Councillor Ashworth be disciplined. If the complaint is upheld, Councillor Parker could become the first Mayor ever to be removed from office by the Standard's Board.

Another effort to derail significant investment in Rochdale Borough's Public Transport was defeated by the Lib Dems at a meeting of the Borough Council. The Conservatives were trying to force a referendum just 35 days after any announcement of the Transport Innovation Bid. The debate was marred as the Deputy Leader of the GMPTE and Labour Group Leader Allen Brett abandoned his principles and left to avoid a backlash from his Greater Manchester Labour Colleagues and avoided the vote that the Lib Dems won easily.
