Save Buersil Post Office

All three political parties backed the campaign to save Buersil Post Office at a packed meeting at St Mary's on Oldham Road. It was standing room only when the meeting kicked off. Representatives from the Lib Dems, the Conservatives and Labour spoke up, alongside dozens of local residents, in admiration of the work that local postmaster Jay Patel does for the local community.

Mr Patel said: "This is not about me, Leanne Wild or our business. This is about providing a service that people value and rely on. We were extremely flattered with the huge attendance and hope this will kickstart a series of events designed at saving this service. We have collected thousands of signatures already and this was a night that we heard a variety of reasons why local people appreciate our busy office. We carried out a useful letter wiritng exercise and I hope that Post Office Ltd will listen to some of the horror stories that will happen if they close our popular office."

Paul Rowen MP said: "This was an excellent meeting and we will be taking resident's thoughts and I will challenging the Government on these closures. Jay Patel and Leanne Wild are local champions that we don't want to lose. It was clear that local people valuable their contributions in local life. Elderly residents spoke of them going out of their way to help elderly people. One even spoke of Jay taking her shopping - that doesn't surprise me. Jay always goes that bit further to help and the appreciation of local people for both Jay and Leanne was apparent.

"I was pleased to tell the story when Jay help millions of pensioners get paid early with their Christmas Pensions after contacting me. He and his staff are one in a million and we are happy to help. I am grateful to Councillor Dale Mulgrew for organising the meeting. We will fight this to save our Post Offices!"
