Councillor Pauline Maguire is delighted at the success of a recent campaign to minimise chewing gum litter. The campaign was organised by the Chewing Gum Action Group and was aimed at educating consumers about the correct disposal of chewing gum.
Rochdale was selected as one of 15 authorities to participate and was provided with information and advertising to help run at outdoor advertising campaigning. The new scheme lasted for four weeks.
Councillor Pauline Maguire, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said,
"The results from this initiative have recently been revealed and I am delighted to announce that Rochdale saw an 87% reduction in the amount of gum litter found in the area.
The scheme highlights just how successful these sorts of education programs can be. I hope to see the return f this program this year and would be delighted to see it implemented again."
