Liberal Democrat Leader and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has said that he is prepared to take David Cameron's place in a head-to-head TV debate with Ed Miliband if the Prime Minister refuses to take up his chair.

Speaking on his weekly radio show on LBC, Call Clegg, Nick said he will assume the role of the only person willing to defend this government's record.

The Prime Minister has said he will take part in only one debate - a seven-sided line up which would be broadcast before the Conservative manifesto is published.

If this happens, the public will not be able to hold the Conservatives accountable to their plans for Britain's future.

Nick added:

"It is not for one party to tell everybody what else is going to happen.

"I kind of have this old-fashioned view that the British people want to see how the leaders measure up against each other."

Liberal Democrats are proud to have helped rescue the economy and ensure that this was done fairly. We will proudly debate our record in government and our manifesto.
