Matthew Allen chosen to stand in Spotland & Falinge

Rochdale Liberal Democrats have chosen Matthew Allen to stand in the 2016 local elections on May 5th. Matt is an experienced Liberal Democrat campaign manager who worked in London with senior Lib Dem Sir Simon Hughes.

"Matt is a perfect example of the new campaigners coming through in the party," said Councillor Andy Kelly. "He's smart, hard working and energetic. Matt moved back to this area last year and is already involved in many local campaigns."

A social media project manager, Matt is keen to engage with younger voters in the ward to build a better future for Spotland and Falinge and for Rochdale town centre. "The younger voters I have spoken to want a town where they can socialise and shop, and most importantly feel safe," he said. "They want good public transport links and shopping facilities, but really recognise the importance of looking after the environment for future generations.

"We had a huge response to a survey we put out last month," said Matt, "It's really good to know what the issues are for local residents. The environment, bin collections, TBA, Scout Moor, traffic and parking are all high on people's agenda. I am attempting to knock on every door in the ward before polling day and want to know what needs changing."

"Spotland & Falinge has a complex set of challenges within the borough," continued Cllr Kelly. "Matt will campaign to get the best deal for residents by making sure we places like Lanehead, Passmonds, Greave, Brotherhod and Falinge are get a fair share of services, budgets and external funding."
