Firgrove Says 20's Plenty! Massive Response To Local Traffic Calming Petition

20 MPH SignAfter just two short weeks, local Lib Dem candidate Dean Larder's '20's Plenty' campaign has won the full support of the community in Firgrove. A landslide of signatures have been registered in support of reducing the speed limit to 20MPH and introducing traffic calming measures on Princess Road, Willows Lane and the surrounding streets.

In independent polling conducted by Rochdale Lib Dems, 89% of residents polled agreed with the introduction of the safer speed limit in the area - 53% endorsed a lower 10MPH speed limit.

Dean's proposals along with the full petition will now be submitted to the Pennine Township Committee for final approval. Considering the groundswell of support in the area for this important public safety measure it is unlikely it should meet much opposition. Councillor Andy Kelly, who sits on the Pennines Township Committee has already pledged his full support for the move, saying today, 'Its obviously the right thing to do - opposing it now would just be foolish'.

Speaking this afternoon, Dean said, 'I am delighted, just delighted. This will really make a difference to the neighbourhood. Its amazing what can be done when we stand together'.
