Milkstone & Deeplish - Save Our Pavements

Hassan Ansari (Milkstone & Deeplish Liberal Democrats)As most of you have seen, there are big plans to redevelop the area around the railway station. I have been taking a keen interest and am pleased to be involved in the consultation process.

While the effect on local businesses of such a massive scheme are far from clear, I am concerned that the emphasis is very much on new people coming to the area - with no apparent concern for the people who already live here.

It is certainly possible that this scheme will help regenerate the area - but fails to address the current issues with traffic - and it ignores some very basic things that have needed attention for years. The most obvious being the state of the pavements across the ward.

Milkstone Road has the highest foot traffic in our area - and the pavement is in an awful condition. I received an email from a business on Milkstone Road about this just yesterday. Recently, I have seen another email from a resident about a pavement on Merefield Street that is flooded for much of the year due to a blocked drain. I have also been made aware of a shocking incident where a partially sighted lady tripped and fell on the uneven pavement on Midhurst Street - hurting herself quite badly. So far, the Council has declined to act.

I think now is the time to do something about it. If you agree with me, please sign this petition today.

When you sign, you will be asked for your postcode - this is so I can make a list of all the streets that need attention*. I will publish the full list of dodgy pavements when the petition closes 28th February 2021.

To get the council to act, we will need a lot of signatures - so please share this petition with friends, family and neighbours who live in the area.

Thanks for your support. Working together, we can make a change that will benefit everyone across the ward.
