A former health practitioner from Littleborough Health Centre and Rochdale Infirmary, Councillor Jane Brophy has been selected as the Liberal Democrat Candidate for next year's Greater Manchester Mayoral elections. The veteran councillor from Trafford will take on Labour's Andy Burnham MP in a race that will also decide our new Police and Crime Commissioner. The Mayor will also have influence over health, environment, planning and other issues.

Jane recently came to Rochdale to meet local Liberal Democrat members and to outline her vision for a 'Fresh start for the Mayor.'

Local Lib Dem Leader Councillor Andy Kelly said: "In Councillor Jane Brophy, we have a dynamic candidate who will deliver real change not just in Rochdale but across Greater Manchester. As a health professional, she has experience of delivering for Rochdale people. Labour have had their chance and wasted it - it's time for a fresh start for our new Mayor. We were pleased that she came to Rochdale to meet our team. Labour are complacent about winning this election and in Jane - we have a positive alternative. Someone that will be a Mayor for the whole of Greater Manchester and not just Manchester City Centre like the current Labour Mayor."

Councillor Jane Brophy, who has previously worked at both Rochdale Infirmary and Littleborough Health Centre said: "I will be working tirelessly to highlight issues such as improving public transport, reducing air pollution, ensuring quality affordable housing and improving hospitals and health across Rochdale, The Pennines and Greater Manchester."

Jane has been a councillor in Trafford, Greater Manchester, for 16 years. Jane is committed to fighting for the Lib Dems in Rochdale, the Pennines and Greater Manchester. She has worked across all areas of Greater Manchester for the NHS.

Jane has been active in the Liberal Democrats since the Party began. She is married to John and they have three grown-up children. Jane works for the NHS as an Allied Health Professional in the field of dietetics, public health and nutrition.
