Campaigning for a fair deal

For Heywood, Middleton, and Rochdale!

The people of Heywood, Middleton, and Rochdale have faced years of failure and neglect in our Town Hall from this disastrous Labour council.

  • Labour’s traffic calming in the centre of Rochdale is crippling businesses on Drake Street, with many of them now closed. Their cycle lanes in Castleton has forced many businesses there to close, and now they propose to do the same damage to Heywood Town.
  • Labour’s failure to provide adequate youth workers has left our children in the hands of paedophiles and running county lines.
  • Labour’s failure to provide adequate social care leaves many of our pensioners isolated.
  • It is Labour that run our public transport, and their failure to provide direct bus services either from township to township or from our poorer communities into Manchester so that they can get to work is lamentable.
  • It is Labour who run our policing, with station desks unresourced and an estimated 36 Burglaries a day going unsolved across Greater Manchester.

Day in, day out, people across Rochdale Borough are facing the failures of this Labour council.

Liberal Democrat leader on Rochdale Council, Andy Kelly, said “This nonsense from Labour shows how desperate they are, how useless they are, and how pathetic they are.”

Labour are even shutting the Neighbourhood Forums, set up by Liberal Democrats so that local people can raise issues with local councillors and service providers.

Andy Kelly added “Labour are running scared of facing local people, they are running a failing council, and they are running out of last chances and time.”

The Liberal Democrats are presenting a new vision for Rochdale and four our country. A vision of cleaner rivers, good public transport, a health service that provides the care we need, and an education service that gives our young people the opportunity to develop the talents they need to get the best jobs and reinvigourate Heywood, Middleton, and Rochdale.

Save the winter fuel allowance

Save the winter fuel allowance!
Labour callous austerity cuts to the Winter Fuel Allowance (WFA) has left pensioners choosing between eating or heating! Around 6,000 of those aged over 80 in Rochdale Borough are at risk of losing their Winter Fuel Payments due to the government’s cuts, the latest official statistics have revealed.
