FOCUS ON CLEANING UP KINGSWAY
Liberal Democrat candidate, Saghir Ahmed, has been reporting litter and fly-tipping across Kingsway ward, and he blames this situation on the Labour council’s decision to cut bin collections to once every three weeks.
Saghir told Focus “The Liberal Democrats on the Council fought to keep bin collections to weekly, but the Labour opposed this and went ahead with their three weekly collection plan. Since then fly-tipping and litter have gotten out of hand”
The Liberal Democrat councillors succeeded in introducing a policy of allowing people three home collections a year of large household items such as furniture and white goods, by telephoning but this does not solve the problem of large families disposing of household waste when they don’t have a car or ban to get to the Tip.
Saghir added, “I want the council to revisit its current policy of collecting refuse once every three weeks. It is not working and we need to find a better way forward”

BULKY WASTE!
Liberal Democrats campaigned for months for the reintroduction of free bulky waste from your home.
Saghir Ahmed told FOCUS "Whilst this does not make up for the reduction of refuse collection to once every three weeks, it should help to reduce bulky waste."
This was reinstated in 2022 so you can now take advantage of 2 free collections of 3 items for each property, each year.
The first 3 items will be free of charge, and any additional items will be charged at £2.50 each.
