A tenner says Andrew is your new Councillor!

15 May 2007

In our latest of posts introducing our new Councillors - Here is Councillor Andrew Abbott - who won the Bamford Seat from the Conservative Deputy Leader by a majority of just TEN. In a hard campaign, Andrew followed Councillor William Hobhouse in a Ward that used to be a Conservative Stronghold. Andrew is the nephew of the late Frank Abbott who died last year. Frank was a long standing member and a former Liberal Councillor...

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ruth and my family and friends for supporting me, my team of helpers, James and David in the office, William my agent and I would also like to thank everyone who took the time out to vote, whether it was for me or the other candidates, because it shows you care about your Community and Rochdale - What an honour it is for me and my family!

Looking at how close the result in Bamford Ward was, shows me how much work we, as the Liberal Democrat team, have to do. I can't wait to start addressing the issues which are close to your hearts, such as over-development, local Health Services, cleanliness of the environment and youth nuisance to name but a few.

I would like to finish by saying it is a real Honour to represent you in the Council and also to be able to represent Rochdale. I will not let you down!
