Alcock for Healey 2021!
Rochdale Lib Dems announce Mark Alcock as candidate for Healey ward
Mark is 60 years old and lives in Rochdale with his wife and two cats. He has three daughters (including twins) and four grandchildren, one of whom is autistic. He has a background in teaching - and is currently working in technology sales. Speaking earlier today to the FOCUS team he said he was 'proud and delighted for the opportunity to serve the people of Healey'.
He is vastly experienced as a councillor having served eight years on Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council - holding the environment & infrastructure portfolio - and as a parish councillor on Shaw and Crompton parish council. Prior to that, Mark served eight years on South Ribble Borough Council and Farington Parish Council. He has also served as a GMP representative, tasked with getting more police funding into the areas he represented. During his long public service, he has helped and supported thousands of people.
His youngest daughter is a qualified midwife, his son in law a staff nurse, his sister in law is a ward supervisor and brother in law, a consultant surgeon. With this much NHS experience close to hand, he has inside knowledge of the problems at our hospitals and he will work to make sure that our residents get the services and health facilities that Healey needs.
Mark has had a varied work history spanning several sectors, he has faced many of the real challenges that the people living in Healey have encountered. This includes the stressful process of being made redundant more than once. He is by no means your average career politician. He believes that these experiences will really help him better understand the needs of residents should the voters of Healey put their trust in him.
'I have no interest in becoming just another town hall poitician' said Mark, 'the people of Healey deserve a dedicated ward councillor who will be there to support them and make a real difference for the residents of the Healey - that's what I plan to do.'
When not working, Mark likes to spend his limited spare time with his wife, his daughters, grandchildren, watching sport and walking in the beautiful countryside we have right on our doorstep.
