Another 150 trees planted in Milnrow

The campaign to plant 10,000 trees in the Rochdale Borough saw 150 native British trees planted on Tunshill Golf Course in Milnrow this week. Members of the "10,000 trees group", Golf Club members and Councillor Andy Kelly planted the trees, supported by The Woodland's Trust.

Councillor Kelly said: "It was great to see different groups coming together to plant these trees at the golf course. Trees are good for our environment and it is another step in our plan to plant 10,000 across our Borough. At a time, when all the discussion is all about building across the Borough - enhancing our rural areas is definitely the way forward."

Environmentalist Matt Knowles from the 10k Trees Project said: "I would like to thank the golf club for allowing us to plant yet more trees. The Borough of Rochdale needs more trees. Trees and woods continue to disappear from our landscapes. This is why we plant trees on our land and support people, organisations and partners to help make trees part of their land."

Gary Gardner, the captain of Tunshill golf club, said: "We were pleased to welcome the volunteers to our club and really pleased with the results. Golf clubs are the idea location for extra trees. They add to our enjoyment of the course but also do their bit to help our environment."
