Plans for a major new arts and conference centre in Rochdale are moving ahead. The proposals are now being considered, with research being undertaken to determine the potential need set to be completed by 19 December. Consultants 'Morris Hargreaves McIntryre 'have been appointed by Rochdale Borough Council to carry out the preliminary research into the current market before a business case is put together that will look at the feasibility of such a facility and how it could be funded.

Councillor Dale Mulgrew said that the task force would be meeting again before Christmas to develop a vision for the proposed development:

"I am keen for this project to move forward, but it needs to be properly researched and carefully considered before we decide whether to proceed. I'm pleased that this research is now well underway. We have an opportunity to develop a wonderful facility for the benefit of residents and visitors, and this is a very exciting prospect. The council is very supportive although ascertaining whether there is a need for this type of facility and whether it is viable are the next important milestones for us."
