Dale Mulgrew - Calling for Rochdale Council to clean up their act!

Balderstone and Kirkholt Lib Dem Campaigner Dale Mulgrew has accused Rochdale Council of being the "Biggest graffiti artists in Rochdale" after reports that Council Officers have been spray painting potholes, problems with pavements and other problems with our highways and pavements.

Dale said, "A simple walk across the Borough illustrates the fact that the our roads and pavements are in urgent need of repair. Rochdale Council sends teams out to "highlight" potholes and other deficiencies. The simple fact is that that they spray paint them and then spend months before they finally repair them. Money spent on sending teams out to do this would be better spent on sorting the problems out. The fact they highlight them sends out the wrong messages to local people that the problem will be sorted quickly... they are the biggest graffiti artists in Rochdale!"

Lib Dem Leader Alan Taylor agreed saying, "It is a source of great frustration to any local resident that a problem highlighted with spray paint will be sorted quickly. That is certainly not the case - I would recommend to the Council that any area that is highlighted with spray paint should be done within 14 days. This Council should change its policy - at the moment they signal that there are potholes and other problems, when highlighted are an advertisement of neglect from our Council."
