Castleton polling station relocates for Euro elections

Putting Castleton FIRST - Councillor Peter Davison

Castleton residents who normally vote at the Castleton Primary School Nursery at election times will have to travel to the other end of the village to cast their votes in the forthcoming Euro elections on June 4th.

This is because the council are not using the school as they normally do for a polling station in these elections. The council's election office state that this is because the school is unavailable this year.

The 1868 electors of Castleton's EC district will instead cast their votes at the Community Centre on Manchester Road.

Commenting on the relocation, Councillor Peter Davison said: " Its quite a walk to the Community Centre for many of the voters who would normally cast their votes at the nursery.

I am surprised at the unavailability of the nursery given that its a council building and hope that this is only a one off relocation. Given the expected low turn out in the election this move will only add to the apathy amongst voters to get out and vote.

Any Castleton voter affected who wants to apply for a postal vote has until May 19th to do so.

If they contact me on 01706 639471, I'll be only to happy to provide them with the required form."
