Cllr Mulgrew writes to the local press

Dear Sir,
It was a great privilege to witness and to participate in last Sunday's Whitsun walk around the Kirkholt Estate.
This event brought the community together in a show of unity and solidarity.
It was fitting the organisers of this event were blessed with fine weather, so that the walk could proceed without interruption. The final gathering near to the Kirkholt bowling club in central Kirkholt was a rewarding final stop for the many who took part.
Let me acknowledge the participants of this event: Trinity Methodist Church, St Mary's C of E Church, Holy Family RC Church, St Thomas's C of E Church and Kirkholt Community Church. The walk was musically led by the Littleborough brass band.
Well done to all the organisers as they did an excellent job ensuring the walk was well marshalled; they also mapped out a route with great foresight in order to include as much of the local community as possible; and they also organised a superb bar-b-q at the end so that those present could continue to socialise at the end of the walk.
After a challenging week that saw the national spotlight overshadow the Kirkholt estate, this was a positive note to end on, which displayed the strength of local community and voluntary organisations.
Their work is so vital and their resolve to make life better was in clear evidence during this heartening community event.
Cllr Dale Mulgrew
