Local environmentalist Siobhain Cunnane selected to stand in Bamford for the Lib Dems

Siobhan Cunnane

Lifelong Rochdale resident Siobhain has long been a horse rider and outdoor champion in Bamford and Norden. Former Bishop Henshaw's (St Cuthbert's) pupil Siobhain then dived into the financial services sector where she worked succesfully for many years. Siobhan also found time to work part time as a teaching assistant at Holy Family College in Bury where she discovered the plight of children falling through the social services net at first hand.

A keen animal welfare advocate, Siobhan has worked for the RSPCA and Blue Cross - and most recently turned her attention to peoples health and wellbeing by retraining as a psychotherapist specialising in hypnotherapy and mental health.

Her campaign priorities for Bamford are:

Crime and Safety - "When I talk to people in Bamford the most common concerns are break ins, car crime and reckless driving. Whilst we appreciate that the National government have cut funding to police services GMP regularly underperform compared to other forces. We need to let the Police police. Not spend their time behind a computer doing admin.

The Environment -"The climate change emergency is real and we need to act now not later. Every one of us has a responsibility to cut carbon gases and reduce plastic waste. We also need to come up with better ways to recycle and reduce litter. Rochdale Borough has a huge network of bridleways and footpaths that need maintaining- which is both a responsibility of the authority and each and every one of us personally. And we don't need to build any more houses across the green belt until we have had post Covid review of population and brown field sites."

Mental Health Services - " I am keen to introduce mental health awareness and therapy into schools across the Borough. Attitudes to mental health are changing but not fast enough. If we start with this generation then we stand a chance to save more lives and reduce long term pressures on the NHS. Mental health problems affect one in four of us. We need to provide healthcare professionals with the resources and support to avert a future metal health crisis."
