Eid Lights light up Milkstone Road!
This year - there was a subdued atmosphere at the "Annual Eid Lights Switch On" at a ceremony on Milkstone Road. Everybody's thoughts were with those affected by the recent Asian Earthquake including the Town's Mayor, Councillors, Community Leaders and a number of children from the local area.
Mohammed Amjad Hussain from Broadfield Primary School, Marsaleen Abbas from St John's RC Primary School and Neelam Khaliq from Deeplish County Primary School arrived by limousine provided by A-list Limos to switch on the displays of lights with to mark the Muslim festival of Eid in Rochdale.
There are a number of lights along Milkstone Road from Drake Street to its junction with Tweedale Street.
Leader of the Lib Dems in Rochdale - Cllr. Alan Taylor said, "I know that residents in Rochdale are still stunned by what happened in the Earthquake. It is only right to mark Eid with this special display though and I know the local school children involved enjoyed being in the spotlight."
