HEYWOOD'S FINEST SWORN IN AS ROCHDALE MAYOR
At the recent annual mayor making ceremony held at Rochdale town hall, Cllr Peter Rush was sworn in as the next Mayor of the borough of Rochdale for the 2013/14 metropolitan year.
Cllr Rush represents the Heywood North ward and at a glittering ceremony there was a star studded audience who had assembled to witness Cllr Rush take the Mayoral oath.
Not only was his daughter-in-law there - Debbie Rush (who has featured in Coronation street), but also present were local Rochdale based comic Jimmy Cricket and Ex Man City footballer Joe Corrigan.
In his acceptance speech Peter emphasised he would be using his Mayoral year to shine a light on the local manufacturing sector, given he had spent many years working within this industry.
During the ceremony Peter gave pride of place to a talented group of young performers from Heywood Junior amateur dramatic society. They wowed everyone present with a magnificent array of songs from the shows!
After the ceremony Peter hosted a reception for everyone who had come along to support the event.
Rochdale Libdem group leader Cllr Andy Kelly proposed Peter for the office of Mayor at the ceremony and said afterwards, 'this is a superb appointment and the role of mayor is one which has been emphatically made for Cllr Peter Rush.'
'He will be a splendid ambassador and will relish this opportunity as the borough's mayor.'
'I have no doubt he will be everywhere in the borough over the next year, and he will serve with distinction and vigour!'
