Leader of the Rochdale Liberal Democrat Group Cllr Andy Kelly has been been successful in securing a £78,000 grant from the Veolia Environmental Trust for the Friends of Milnrow Memorial Park to build a skateboard and BMX facility for the local community. The grant comes after a fundraising drive that has seen £22,000 already raised making this a six figure project for the local community.

"I'm delighted to have helped the group reach this aim" said Cllr Kelly, "It's a visible, physical and real change for the people of Milnrow and Newhey, and in the present climate of cuts and efficiencies this is a real boost for the residents of our villages."

Work will begin on the site in 2013 with and expected opening in spring or summer. "I regularly support local groups and organizations with grant applications as part of my day job" continued Cllr Kelly "and I would like to continue that offer to any groups within the ward. This is the first of a number of grants we will bring to the area making it a safer, cleaner and better equipped place to live for everyone"
