Last chance to help save your Post Office

Rochdale's Councillors, Post Masters and MP would are reminding residents that they have until next Monday (21 July) to have their say on the proposed closure of four of Rochdale's Post Offices.

Buersil, Spotland Road, Caldermoor and Smithybridge post offices all face the possibility of closure under the government led plans to close 2,500 Post Offices nationwide.

Postmaster for Buersil Post Office Jay Patel said: "I really can not fault the tremendous support that local residents and customers have given us in this campaign. Our public meeting, barefoot march and protest at Rochdale Township were all well attended and it's a real testament to the spirit of our community. However, this Monday is the closing date of the Post Office consultation and every voice counts. So if you haven't done so already, please let the consultation know of your objections to their planned closures."

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen said: "It's thanks to the determination and support of local residents that our campaign got off to a great start. We are now in the final week and we really need a final big push to help save our post offices. This week I will be sending off the thousands of petitions you have signed to show Post Office Limited and our government just how determined we are to keep our Post Offices open."

Balderstone and Kirkholt Councillor Pat Colclough said: "Many people may have read of our landmark proposal to save our Post Offices by offering to use devolved money to pay the £20,000 subsidy, which would keep them open for another three years. However, it is still important that we register our disapproval at the decisions that have been taken, as there is still hope that we can save our post offices from closure. I would like to urge all residents that have not already done so to write a letter, make a phone call or sign a petition in one final attempt to save our post offices before Monday's deadline."
