LIB DEMS CRITICISE LABOUR'S CREATION OF 'JOBS FOR THE BOYS'

At a recent meeting of Rochdale Council, the ruling Labour group have decided to create a number of additional paid posts for Councillors within their ranks.

In spite of the same group crying poverty in the face of cuts they are making to local Council service provision, they have been remarkable in still being able to find thousands of pounds from Council coffers to fund the creation of:

- Eight Assistant Portfolio holders.

- A chair and vice chair of a new committee.

- A paid post for Greater Manchester (which no other GM authority has contirbuted to).

So effectively when Council jobs are being slashed during this financial year, the Labour Group have decided to introduce new posts for politicians.

This move has been fiercely condemmed by the Rochdale LibDems.

Group leader Andy Kelly slammed this ludicrous move and added 'it beggars belief that this Labour Council chooses to spend more money on politicians than over services.'

'I still am not clear what these posts will do and whether there will be a need for them?'

'The cheek of this Labour group is suffocating. This is because they have raided the Council's emergency fund to pay for these politicians. This fund is usually the place where extra grit over the winter season is paid from, or if money is required to support an unexpected community safety issue.'

'How can it ever be an emergency to spend more money on politicians?'
