Lib Dems would give Greater Manchester Police an extra £15 million a year

Liberal Democrats have announced they would boost investment in police forces by £300m a year. This is in stark contrast to the Conservatives who have overseen devastating cuts to community policing. Theresa May as Home Secretary and now Prime Minister has cut policing budgets by over £2bn, eroding the very fabric of community policing.

Under the Liberal Democrats, Greater Manchester would see a funding increase of £15,630,000 a year. This would be used to restore a visible policing presence in the community and ensure the police have the training and tools to deal with the changing nature of crime.

Rochdale Liberal Democrat Candidate Councillor Andy Kelly said: "This investment in our police is absolutely vital. Under Labour's stewardship of our Police Force, 111,445 crimes, many of them violent were not even investigated by local police last year. Under Theresa May - first as Home Secretary and now as Prime Minister, our police have had to deal with the most brutal of cuts. These are now cutting into the bone.

"Our police work tirelessly to keep us safe and this Government has completely betrayed them.

"If elected in June, I will work to ensure that Rochdale gets its fair share of extra officers. Cuts or not, the performance of Labour-led Greater Manchester Police has been criminal. They have the wrong priorities, preferring to pour officers into Manchester City Centre. I will prioritise ensuring Rochdale gets it's fair share of officers. We need to ensure our streets are safer. Extra officers are part of the answer."
