Local Business Steps In On School Meals
Founded in Rochdale in 2005, Chunky Chicken has become a hugely succesful national fast food chain - but co-founder Fareed Nasir feels that his success comes with responsibilities. After a week of frustration at the antics on the Tories in Westminster he decided yesterday to get involved by offering free lunches to local school children during the coming half term break. Speaking to Milkstone & Deeplish Lib Dems today, Mr. Nasir made it clear that he simply couldn't stand by and allow local children to go hungry - 'These kids need to be fed', said Mr. Nasir.
The offer is open to all Rochdale school children - aged 4-16 - between Monday 26th October and Friday 30th October between noon and 1pm. To order your free lunch - please call ahead on 01706344555. You can collect between noon and 1pm from Chunky Chicken's Rochdale store on Milkstone Road. The offer is only open to Rochdale residents.
Mr. Nasir is already looking to the future - with Christmas just around the corner - he is considering bringing the offer back to cover the Christmas period. 'Lets see how next week goes - but it is something I am thinking about', commented Mr. Nasir.
Speaking this afternoon, Councillor Andy Kelly said, 'This is a great offer at a difficult time for many famillies in the area, we fully support any business prepared to help out. We hope many more businesses consider pitching in'.
News of Chunky Chicken's support of hungry local kids comes a day after Rochdale Council announced their own plans to support local school children.
