Local Lib Dems win top national award

1 Oct 2015

Councillor Andy Kelly and the Milnrow & Newhey Liberal Democrats won a national award for best ward campaign at the 2015 Liberal Democrat Conference in Bournemouth last week. The award was presented to the team by Sir Simon Hughes in recognition for the campaign 2015 local elections where Andy won by 720 votes.

Ex Mayor and former council leader Irene Davidson, who was Andy's agent, said: "The whole campaign in Milnrow & Newhey was based around listening to residents' concerns and ideas and acting upon them. We knocked on doors, delivered leaflets and used social media to engage residents all year round, not just in the last 2 weeks before the election. The award recognises the teams' ongoing efforts in working for local people throughout the year."

The award comes with a cash prize which the team will put straight back into campaigning. "Unlike Labour and the Conservatives who get their donations from trade unions or big business, the Lib Dems fundraise at a grassroots level and the money will come in handy to keep in touch with local people."

Councillor Andy Kelly is available on 07812 222740 or andy.kelly@rochdale.gov.uk or Facebook: Councillor Andy Kelly if you need to speak regarding any issues or problems in the ward.
