Working on the flooding

Milnrow and Newhey Liberal Democrats have written to local residents to update them on the latest on the recent flooding. Councillor Andy Kelly said that they were now any getting on top of the flooding that has affected Milnrow Memorial Park, Dale Street / Kiln Lane and Dale Street at the Working Men's Club.

Councillor Andy Kelly said, "The recent high rainfall has caused havoc in our area. We have been on the case though and we are delighted to report that the drains (gullies) at the bottom of Kiln Lane/ Dale Street were cleaned out by workmen yesterday and then the council machine came did its job on them all.

"There was a considerable blockage in them all. Many people will also have spotted the vehicle going round our area this week doing the gullies. There is also a separate piece of work now taking place in the connecting drain at the Working Men's Club which drains into the river. This should hopefully stop the flooding at the bottom of Cornfield Street and Rosemary Care Home.

"Finally, Councillor Irene Davidson and I met with a council officer this morning along with Philip Holt and Kieran Binns from Carpet Creations and The Bobbin Milnrow and we have been informed that the Kiln Lane/Dale street gullies will now be cleaned 3 times a year instead of once. This is great news.

"I am pleased that the council have responded quickly to our concerns. It just goes to show that by working together we can deal with any problem that gets thrown at us."
