'Mulgrew calls for safety improvements to Broad Lane'
Balderstone and Kirkholt Councillor - Dale Mulgrew has called for new and better safety measures to be installed on Broad Lane either side of the motorway bridge. Councillor Mulgrew said, "I have been inundated with requests by residents about the dangers of this stretch of road. It is about time that the Council agreed to take some action. I have been talking to residents since the start of the year and now I have been elected it's time for some positive action. I will be working with local residents and doing a survey to find out exactly what they believe could lead to eradicating the accidents which seem to be all too frequent on this road. One thing I have learnt is that it is absolutely vital to consult with local people. It is only by talking to local people that you can act responsibly and recommend to the communities solutions to problems."
Following Councillor Mulgrew's request a report will be presented to the next meeting of Rochdale Township. The report on Broad Lane will be presented by the Road Transport Network and Road Safety Department. Dale has written to ROSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) asking for their support to make the road safer. Dale said, "I hope to have the support of ROSPRA, hopefully the survey I do with residents will support my call for better safety measures in the area before we have an accident. I want this Council to start being proactive and start looking at problem roads before there is an accident, instead of reacting to problems when it is too late. I would like to thank local, Broad Lane Resident - Mr Andrew Rostain Andrew Rostron who has led residents in their concern and will be assisting me with the survey."
Meanwhile, Dale launches his Advice Surgeries, this Saturday, June 10th at Balderstone Library between 10am and 12pm. He will then be at The Kirkholt Drop In Centre on Saturday, June 17th between 10am and 12pm. As well as this, Dale will be continuing his popular "Street Surgeries" alongside Rochdale's MP - Paul Rowen. Dale said, "It is extremely important to communicate effectively with local people. That is why I am launching my regular Advice Surgery, I hope to see as many local residents as possible. If you can't come to me, I will come to you and I am asking anyone in Balderstone and Kirkholt to recommend roads that I can come and visit.
