Lisa Kimpton (RMBC), Emma Lees, Andy Lees (Club Steward) Steve Lowe (Chairman of the Club), Councillor Irene Davidson, Club Stalwart Vic and Councillor Janet Emsley launch the defibrillator outside Milnrow Worker's Club

Milnrow and Newhey Councillors Andy Kelly and Irene Davidson were joined by Lisa Kimpton from the Council to officially launch the new defibrillator outside Milnrow Work Mens Club. A campaign was launched after a customer at the club died of a heart attack. After being contacted by residents and customers at the club, Councillor Andy Kelly swung into action, liaising with the Council and the North West Ambulance Service to install defibrillators at the club and The Bobbin pub. He is also working to get another defibrillator installed on Huddersfield Road in Newhey.

Andy said: "Defibrillators save lives - up and down the country there are stories about how these 'miracle' machines have pulled people back from the brink. We'll never know if it would have saved the customer's life. It could have made a difference and that is good enough for me. I'd like to thank Lisa Kimpton from the Council and Rod Cape from the North West Ambulance Service who have been brilliant and all the residents who supported our charity quiz night. The money raised helped pay for a secure box to safeguard this life saving equipment."

There are some free CPR and defib training sessions available at the club on the following dates:

Sunday 16th Oct 12-1pm
Tuesday 18th Oct 5-6pm
Tuesday 25th Oct 5-6pm

More sessions will available in the future.

Councillor Irene Davidson said: "Obviously defibrillators which locals can access and use are great. It is crucial to ensure that we provide the training and know how for people to use them. I would encourage as many residents as possible to attend the training sessions provided by qualified first aiders."
