One In The Eye For Rogue Parking Firm
Victory for local people as parking company perform U turn in Milnrow.
Lib Dem campaign leads to thousands of pounds returned to people's pockets.
Hundreds of local residents are celebrating a victory, following a wave of parking charge notices that were issued on an area of land behind the precinct in Milnrow village.
The issue was brought to the attention of Milnrow and Newhey councillors after a spate of tickets were issued in August, including a resident who was charged for parking on his own land
Cllr Irene Davidson said "In simple terms, Parking Eye have been issuing fines on behalf of Welcome Estates who own the precinct. However, they do not own the piece of land in question at the back and have no right to do so."
Cllr Dave Bamford added "The level of stress and upset that this has caused people can't be measured. Sleepless nights, illness and trips to the doctors have all been reported."
In an email to Cllr Andy Kelly we can confirm that Parking Eye have issued the following:
- We have cancelled all outstanding parking charges from this area in the rear car park going back to November 2019
- We are also in the process of refunding any paid parking charges
- We have already reconfigured the cameras at the entrance to ensure those motorists using the entrance to the car park, to then enter another car park will not show up on our system
Furthermore, when asked for clarification they said:
- We are proactively reaching out to all those affected. Every outstanding PCN will be contacted in the coming days to inform them of the cancellation
- The refunds will be in form of cheque which is sent to each motorist
Cllr Andy Kelly said "If you have been sent a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) or bailiff demand it should be cancelled. Similarly, if you have paid a PCN or bailiff demand you will be entitled to a refund which should arrive by cheque soon.
