Should the New Barn Lane/ Ashfield Road Railway Bridge be closed?

Milkstone and Deeplish - New Barn Lane/ Ashfield Road Railway Bridge

Many people have expressed concerns to us about traffic using the New Barn Lane/ Ashfield Road Railway bridge as a cut through. The cars speed through, despite the traffic calming and are travelling in both directions.

The bridge is close to Ashfield Valley Primary School where many local children attend and many parents are concerned that there might be an accident.
We think that there are 3 options to deal with this problem and would like your views. We will then put the results to the Council's Highway department and ask them to implement an agreed solution. The three options are:

  1. Completely close the bridge to traffic leaving it for pedestrians only.
  2. To put traffic lights both sides of the bridge to regulate the traffic.
  3. To do nothing - leave it as it is.
