Spotland Comes Together for Open Day Exhibition

Local residents came together recently as Spotland Community Centre held an open day exhibition. Residents were invited down to get information on a wide range of issues including welfare rights, how to cut crime and the local environment.

Exhibitors included the Greater Manchester Police, Rochdale BoroughWide Housing, Rochdale Road Safety Unit, Rochdale MBC Welfare Rights and many more organisations.

Special guests at the event were the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, Keith Swift and Sue Etchells. Local Councillor Peter Clegg and Barbara Todd also attended as well as nearly 200 local residents.

Spotland Community Centre Manager Sikander Musa said: "We decided to hold the open day purely for the benefited of the local community we serve. It was great to see so many people turn up to take advantage of the event and we will definitely be looking at holding more of these in the future."

Maureen Vella, Chair of the Community Centre, said: "It was great to see all different sections of our community at the event. I was also delighted to see so many different agencies also coming down to offer their help and advice.

Councillor Peter Clegg said: "I would like to congratulate Spotland Community Centre for doing a superb job in hosting this event alongside the Council. Events like these are very important for communities like ours. Many people who are struggling at the moment do not realise how we, as a Council, can provide free help and advice for them. These sorts of exhibitions are definitely something I believe we should be putting on more regularly throughout Rochdale."
