"You only ever call at Election Time?"

16 May 2007

Another busy week - A sign of things to come. Also busy planning my daughter's wedding with my family. I can't begin to tell you how proud I am that my team got me elected nearly 2 weeks ago.

So what do you have to do as a new Councillor? Well attend many meetings is one thing but sharp action on the doorstep is my tactic. I was canvassing yesterday and a lady said, "We only ever see you at Election Time!" I was delighted to report that the election was a fortnight ago - she smiled and said "sorry" It is the all year round commitment that people value.

I have reported numerous incidents of dumping, roads that need resurfacing and the rest. These I think are one of the main roles as a Councillor. It is absolutely vital that we strive to ensure that people get value for money from this Council.

On Thursday, I am going for dinner with some of our key campaigners to plan next year's campaign. We are delivering a leaflet to thank people for their support in Kingsway, Newbold, Buersil, Turfhill and the rest of the ward. It is imperative that we rebuild confidence in local government. It is my view that activity outside of election time is more important than campaigning in it. We intend to revamp our website, leaflet monthly, knock on doors now and step up our campaigning for the people of our area.
