Focus on Fly Tipping

Three weekly refuse collections cause fly-tipping!

Liberal Democrat candidate, Zulfiqar Ali, said "When I was a councillor we fought to keep bin collections to weekly, but the Labour opposed this and went ahead with their three weekly collection plan.”

"Demographical information shows that Smallbridge & Firgrove has residents with larger families and they are suffering. How do they go three weeks with only having one bin to dispose waste in?"

“This is causing an increase in littering and fly tipping as residents are not having their extra rubbish collected if it's left near their bins on collection date. The residents are simply fed up.”

The Liberal Democrat councillors succeeded in introducing a policy of allowing people three home collections a year of large household items such as furniture and white goods, but this does not solve the problem of large families disposing of household waste when they don’t have a car or ban to get to the Tip.

Zulfiqar Ali added, “I want the council to revisit its current policy of collecting refuse once every three weeks. It is not working and we need to find a better way forward to stop the fly-tipping and clean up Rochdale.”
