My liberal vision for a thriving economy
I’m proud that once again it is the Liberal Democrats leading the way, with our vision for an economy that is growing strongly, where everyone feels the benefits.
Nationally the Conservatives were reduced to just 121 seats with no MP's in Greater Manchester, just 50 seats ahead of the Liberal Democrats.
The election also saw an increase in the number of minor parties represented in the House of Commons (13) and the number of MP’s elected as Independents (15).
Here in Greater Manchester the Liberal Democrats gained two seats and the Conservatives lost all their seats, making the Liberal Democrats the second party at the Parliamentary level for the first time since our foundation in 1988.
A year on and in the last couple of weeks the Liberal Democrats here in Greater Manchester overtook the Conservatives as the second party in Local Government.
Sadly, a year on, it is becoming clear that Labour are just making things worse as they take from the poorest to prop up an economy that serves the rich. From the cuts to winter fuel allowance, to the treatment of WASPI women; from the cuts to PIP’s to the failure to get sewage out of our rivers, Labour is letting us down.
Here in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale the Liberal Democrats are providing real opposition to this Labour Council.
Nationally, whilst Labour are cutting services and support for the poorest in our society, it is the Liberal Democrats are calling for big banks, social media companies, energy companies, and gambling giants to pay their fair share, to help fund public services and support those in need.
Last July this country called for change, and whilst Labour continue with the same failed policies of the past, only the Liberal Democrats offer the sensible change that we need!
I’m proud that once again it is the Liberal Democrats leading the way, with our vision for an economy that is growing strongly, where everyone feels the benefits.
