Life expectancy figures a cause for concern!

1 Aug 2006

Paul Rowen, MP for Rochdale has spoke of his concern after figures revealed that part of Rochdale has one of the lowest life expectancies in the country. The old Ward of Central and Falinge hit the headlines recently for the wrong reasons.

Rochdale MP, Paul Rowen said, "These figures are a cause for great concern, this area is an area of high unemployment, poor diet and a lack of resources. I will be using these figures to push my arguments for much more investment in the regeneration of Falinge.

These figures also point quite clearly the need to invest in Health Services in Rochdale. The fact that the average life expectancy in one part of Rochdale is less than 70, shows that we need to retain and improve services at Rochdale Infirmary, not close them down as our health bosses would like. The fact that one area of our town is joined by many other areas of Greater Manchester shows a clear North/South divide and I'll be raising this in Parliament."
