New Leader carries out Cabinet reshuffle
Councillor Irene Davidson, the new Leader of Rochdale Council, has undertaken her first major act as Leader by reducing the Cabinet by one post. Councillor Davidson, whose position was confirmed at a Council meeting last night, will no longer be the Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability.
Councillor Pauline Maguire who is the Portfolio Holder for Older People has agreed to take over Councillor Davidson's position. As a result, the Older People portfolio is being merged with the Health and Social Care Portfolio which is currently under the control of Councillor Dale Mulgrew.
Speaking about her decision Leader of the council Irene Davidson said:
"The last 12 months have been very difficult for the people of Rochdale and it is important that where possible the Council make cuts to reduce expenditure. Merging the Older People and Health and Social Care portfolios will free up £7,000 for the council.
I have complete faith in Councillor Maguire who has done a wonderful job and shown dedication and caring in her work as the Cabinet holder for Older People. There is no doubt in my mind that she will do the same as the new Portfolio holder for Environment and Sustainability.
Councillor Maguire added:
"I am honoured to take over from Councillor Davidson as the new Portfolio holder for Environment and sustainability. Councillor Davidson has done a wonderful job with this portfolio and I am looking forward to the change in direction."
